UNLOCKING THE POWER OF FACIAL RECOGNITION IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS

In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, the rise in crime rates presents a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies worldwide. As criminal activities become more sophisticated and transnational, investigators grapple with a growing list of complexities.

THE CHALLENGE OF MODERN CRIME

Recent crime statistics underscore the pressing need for advanced tools and technologies to combat criminal activities effectively:

RAPID IDENTIFICATION

Facial recognition technology can help swiftly identify individuals from vast databases, reducing the time and resources required to pinpoint suspects or persons of interest.

TIME SAVINGS

Facial recognition technology can process and compare thousands of faces per second, significantly reducing the time it takes to identify suspects. This speed is crucial in cases where rapid action is required, such as locating missing persons or apprehending dangerous criminals.

COLD CASE RESOLUTION

Facial recognition has played a pivotal role in solving cold cases. By comparing old photographs or sketches to contemporary databases, investigators have been able to make breakthrough identifications that were previously unattainable.

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS

Facial recognition technology has found a multitude of applications in various criminal investigations, playing a pivotal role in enhancing law enforcement efforts to combat a wide range of crimes.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

VICTIM IDENTIFICATION: Facial recognition can assist law enforcement in identifying victims of human trafficking who may be reluctant to come forward or lack identification documents. By matching faces to known databases, authorities can potentially rescue victims.

PREDATOR IDENTIFICATION: Similarly, facial recognition can help identify perpetrators involved in human trafficking. Suspects' images can be compared against watchlists or known traffickers' databases to help identify and potentially apprehend them upon further investigation.

CASE STUDY: A Reno Police Department investigator needed to identify a child that was being sexually exploited. The investigator submitted one of the facial images from the ads, and within 10 to 15 seconds Clearview AI provided a possible lead, including a link to the girl’s Instagram page. Thereafter, the  police department positively identified the victim within two hours of the Clearview AI search—and confirmed that she was a 16 year old juvenile.

CHILD EXPLOITATION

CASE STUDY: In a notable case, Federal investigators raced to find more than 300 children who were likely victims of online sexual abuse and exploitation in the U.S. and across the globe. The operation was led by HSI Cyber Crime Center special agents, who work alongside the National and International Centers for Missing and Exploited Children, the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, Interpol and 13 other countries.

ROBBERIES & BURGLARIES

CASE STUDY: An agency in Ohio was able to identify a burglary suspect they were trying to identify for a long time. After using Clearview AI to identify the person, it led to the discovery that the suspect was also wanted for murder in Ohio. The warrant for the suspect was two years old!

MISSING PERSONS
