The Miami (Florida) Police Department was investigating an incident that took place outside of Kush Restaurant in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. A patron and his friend got into an argument with a restaurant employee. One of them shot at the employee, however, he accidentally hit his friend instead, who died at the scene. The shooter fled.
In accordance with Florida law, the shooter was legally liable for his friend’s death.
Other evidence at the crime scene helped identify the shooter but could not help law enforcement locate his whereabouts.

THE RESULTS
THE SUSPECT WAS LOCATED AND APPREHENDED
The investigating officers gathered information from the crime scene, including video footage from a restaurant security camera. A still image was created from the video footage and submitted to a Clearview AI search. The search returned a strong potential match for the suspect, as well as his social media profile. The information in the social media profile, coupled with additional investigative work at the crime scene, allowed a second out-of-state police department to locate and apprehend the suspect less than two days later.
