Nashville Int'l Airport’s Dept of Public Safety Helps Identify Suspect in Attempted Rental Car Theft

At Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (Kentucky), a suspect with a counterfeit driver’s license tried to rent a car. When police approached him, the suspect fled and left his counterfeit driver’s license behind. The investigator sent a picture of the license to a regional airport fraud taskforce group, which includes Lt. Scott Harding of Nashville International Airport (BNA).

Lt. Harding searched the facial image from the license using Clearview AI. Within a few seconds, he received a result. Lt. Harding used this result to launch a full investigation, using the name to search the FBI’s National Data Exchange (N-DEx) System. This uncovered multiple arrests of the person, including a fraud-related arrest. This gave the Louisville investigator enough information to issue an arrest warrant.

The Criminal Investigations Division at BNA can now identify more than 20% of rental car thieves, doubling their identification capabilities.
